I'm Being Monitored...

Sat Mar 10, 2007, 3:47 AM
Well, my Viewsonic A90f is finally being put out to pasture. It was getting progressively more blurry and had developed an occasional twitch. Having had a monitor die on me before and not wanting to research new ones on one of the ancient, tiny, non-flat screened CRTs we have lying around, I went ahead and did some shopping around before this one completely died, rather than after.

Is it just me or are CRTs extinct? I swear, no one stocks them anymore, hardly anyone has a decent selection of them online and shipping a large CRT can be prohibitively expensive, especially in the event of an exchange/return.

I grabbed a Samsung SyncMaster 931BF. It seems nice but it's my first LCD and will take some getting used to. Some of my photos look overly sharp on it, though considering that my A90f had gotten so bad that I couldn't tell a - from a = in UltraEdit 32 (Courier New, 10pt), I shouldn't be surprised.

It beats the pants off a dying monitor but now I have to bother with things like native resolution (gonna kill my Framerates in games), viewing angles (never seems quite right...) and dead/stuck pixels (I have a hot-pink pixel in the upper middle of the screen that drives me nuts sometimes but conventional wisdom seems to suggest that only one bad pixel is a good thing and that if I exchange the monitor, I'll end up with worse).

I have a week to return it if I decide to, so I'd be interested in any opinions you might have.

Very nice pictures you have here.
You need to replace your busted Powershot so you can shoot more stuff.
:iconsnoy:
you've got some great photographs!
keep it up!

(maybe I think you're doing too often the same thing, try change for a bit? but then again, you've got to do what you are best in and like doing the most ;)
just a small comment, nevermind me :))

Thank you, I will!
Yeah, I'll agree with you on that. I have a lot of plantlife in there. Part of it is my lack of human subjects and part of it is that I have no lights. The lighting in the house is really miserable; my poor little A75 can barely cope. Hopefully I can branch out in the not so distant future.

Thank you for the comments (and the honesty :)).

Mayor: I'm going to stand here and read this story to the city, because I want all the children out there to believe in the magic of (reading speech) Satan.
Mike: That's Santa, It's a typo.
